In 1993, Dr. Legato founded the Partnership for Women’s Health at Columbia University, which eventually became the Foundation for Gender-Specific Medicine in 2006. Dr. Legato’s work has had a transformative impact on how healthcare providers understand and treat both men and women, emphasizing the unique aspects of medical treatment and care across genders.
Dr. Legato's significant accomplishments have also earned her an honorary doctorate from the University of Panama in 2015, in recognition of her pioneering efforts in gender-specific medicine.
